Bad loser…

Welcome

I’ve been in hospitality business for 17 years now, working in different countries but always within the big players.

First Hapimag Resorts than Van der Valk Hotels from the Netherlands and since five years by Accorhotels. I can’t remember a department that I haven’t worked yet. I’ve never been a good cook nor a waiter but still I can serve some okay stuff on o your table. My power is within the human relations. I can read a person ,see what’s going on in his/her mind and help before anything even happens. I’m a good leader too. It is not that difficult to be a good one like everyone thinks, love your people and make sure they are okay. Because love is in everything and everywhere, just share with the people who you see more than your own family. Logic!

I have been working for Accorhotels in the Netherlands for almost five years now, in these five years I’ve been a deputy & general manager in ibis Utrecht, General Manager in ibis Rotterdam City Centre, studied in Paris Essec & Evry and become Director of Transformation within the BeNeLux. Because that was not good enough they even nominated me as the best General Manager of the world during the Worldwide Hospitality Awards in Paris last night! On the night the moon was closest to the earth within the next 70 years. I thought, that’s my night, I will win this award…

But here it is, within the six finalist I didn’t make it on the stage, I lost…

I don’t know if you guys ever watched the soap opera  “friends” where Joey loses the trophy and goes crazy? I did the same. I forgot what I’ve achieved in last 5 years and how hard I worked in last 17 years but, I got mad! How dare they would choose someone else…I did so much my best…Frustrated!

Suddenly I realised that, I was sitting next to my beautiful and loving wife and I was within the best six GM’S of the world!

I applauded the winner and let go. Grab a glass of wine and raised to all of you. Who made me who I am now. Thank you! I’ve seen and learned so much from you. I promise I’ll be willing to learn, give and love more. Life is good when you share it. I would like to say thanks to Johan, Vero, Helen, Yves and Yves,Richard, Caro, Peter, Denys, Liza, Poleanne ,team ibis Rotterdam City Centre! I owe you a million. Finally…I’m not a bad loser, for the first time in my life!
